We are looking for talented individuals living in the Lisbon area to join our Data Support & User Experience, and Data Curation teams. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to get a foothold in the world of Startups and Venture Capital while developing your skills in Data quality, classification & content curation.
About Dealroom.co
Founded in Amsterdam in 2013, Dealroom.co is the foremost data provider on start-ups and innovation ecosystems globally. We have become a valuable source of transparent, data-driven intelligence to decision makers. As such we work with many of the world's most prominent investors, entrepreneurs and government organisations. We provide data, insights and bespoke analyses on the world of startups and venture capital-backed innovation. Dealroom data and insights are frequently featured in The Economist, Financial Times, The New York Times, and other leading titles. Our offerings include data sets via SaaS and API, as well as a global network of open-access ecosystem platforms, and bespoke research.
Our Lisbon office was established in 2022 and has quickly grown to become Dealroom’s second home, hosting various core functions of the company in the fields of (data) quality, content curation, data science and engineering. Joining our Lisbon office means that you will become part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary team made of individuals from a variety of backgrounds where new initiatives are encouraged, team spirit is cultivated, and proactiveness is valued.
About the role
What can you expect from this position?
Working with analysts from our Intelligence Unit, you can expect careful and personalised mentoring from industry experts. On a daily basis, you can expect to work on a diverse set of requests pertaining to startups (startups and their founders) and their enablers (investors, universities and service providers). You will also be in touch with our AI engineers, who will also be eager to involve you in a variety of projects leading up to high-quality automation, with direct insights into the inner workings of Machine Learning algorithms powering our App.
Which role is made for you?
Our colleagues in Data Support & User Experience, and Data Curation teams work closely with each other and with Dealroom’s Intelligence Unit, Data Engineering, and Customer success teams. The two roles share many similarities, including unique exposure to the inner workings of the Dealroom app and the data underneath it, and a thorough understanding of the definitions and concepts supporting its structure. Both teams mainly work behind the scenes, but with great internal and external impact.
Data Curation
Our Data Curation team works closely with our intelligence analysts to deliver high-quality content fuelling the Dealroom database. By processing ad-hoc requests based on unstructured sets of data, you'll help turn raw financial and contextual information into fully digestible insights for our users. In doing so, you’ll actively contribute to increasing our customers’ satisfaction. In time, you will gain ownership and expertise over segments of data quality, allowing you to provide meaningful feedback and to increase the efficiency of your own projects.
You also work regularly with data engineers, account managers and the product team to improve the quality of our data and content, and our ways of working.
Working in data curation means you will play an instrumental role in our data processes, reviewing and enhancing business-critical data points on which our product and clients rely.
On a daily basis, you can expect to work on the creation, enhancement and maintenance of high-quality content used by our users and analysts.
Key markers of success in data curation include (1) ensuring the accuracy, and timely delivery of the content you will create, and (2) giving, receiving and processing feedback on the content you create, and its delivery.
You will receive training in, and increasingly become an expert of: startup life cycles, VC funding mechanisms, the structure of innovation ecosystems, industry-specific trends and feature spotting.
There is ample room for personal and professional growth in this position, including pathways to industry and/or geography-focussed specialization, and project management.
If you are curious, enjoy solving puzzles, and investigating multifaceted problems, but with an acute sense of priorities and concision, then this position is for you!
On a daily basis, you can expect close interactions with our Intelligence Unit Analysts and Data Support teams. You will also work on specific projects with our Sales, Product and Data engineering teams. In doing so, you will:
On a daily basis
Audit large sets of incomplete data, with a particular focus on:
Participating to the routine maintenance of current datasets and products, by updating data tables and critically reviewing new findings, to ensure coherence and quality.
Handling ad-hoc data requests, and ensuring quality and timely delivery.
Auditing new data sources in various forms, supervising data entry and performing quality checks upon delivery, in view of improving both their completeness and accuracy.
Working to reduce the handling time from request to delivery, including by playing an active role in the (re-)definition of our processes and methods where needed.
Identifying patterns across large quantities of information, and where required, investigating the origin of suspected errors, cross-checking data against third party sources, and gathering context around incidents by means of detective-like work.
Contextualizing your findings, arbitrating between precision and concision, and creating digestible narratives to instigate confidence and to help users to find their way around the data.
Reducing the occurrence of “obvious” faulty profiles: duplicates, empty profiles, wrong data points and faulty entity types.
Periodically
Participate to the development of new (research) products
What we can offer you
