About Dealroom.co
Founded in Amsterdam in 2013, Dealroom.co is the foremost data provider on start-ups and innovation ecosystems globally. We have become a valuable source of transparent, data-driven intelligence to decision makers. As such we work with many of the world's most prominent investors, entrepreneurs and government organisations. Our Lisbon office was established in 2022 and has quickly grown to become Dealroom’s second home, hosting various core functions of the company in the fields of (data) quality, content curation, data science and engineering. Joining our Lisbon office means that you will become part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary team made of individuals from a variety of backgrounds where new initiatives are encouraged, team spirit is cultivated, and proactiveness is valued.
About the role
What can you expect from this position?
Working with analysts from our Intelligence Unit, you can expect careful and personalized mentoring from industry experts. On a daily basis you can expect to work on a diverse set of requests pertaining to startup ecosystems (startups and their founders) and their enablers (Investors, Universities and service providers). You will also be in touch with our AI engineers, who will also be eager to involve you in a variety of projects leading up to high-quality automation, with direct insights into the inner workings of Machine Learning algorithms powering our App.
Which role is made for you?
Our colleagues in Data Support & User Experience, and Data Curation teams work closely with each other and with Dealroom’s Intelligence Unit, Data Engineering, and Customer success teams. The two roles share many similarities, including unique exposure to the inner workings of the Dealroom app and the data underneath it, and a thorough understanding of the definitions and concepts supporting its structure. Both teams mainly work behind the scenes, but with great internal and external impact.
Data Support & User Experience
Our Data Support & User Experience team forms the front line of Dealroom’s user-centered approach. This role is mainly about working behind the scenes, but nevertheless with great internal and external impact. You will ensure that companies and products are adequately classified, leveraging our proprietary taxonomy. You will work at various levels of granularity on our data and content including business structures, industry, sub-industry and thematic categorisations. In time, you will become a trusted team player on which the Department relies to maintain and expand a robust and user-friendly categorisation strategy across our database. You play a key role in further driving automation within the organization. Data Support & User Experience works directly with data curation, data engineers, product and customer success teams.
- Working in data support means you will help Dealroom users find what they are looking for. You achieve this in two main ways:
- by supporting the implementation of our proprietary industry taxonomy, as well as writing and reviewing short descriptions of the world’s hottest startups.
- by answering the questions and queries of users and participating in the development of our product, which you will quickly get to know in great depths as a daily power user.
- On a daily basis, you can expect to support the implementation of our taxonomy under the joint supervision of automation engineers running our algorithms, and of the intelligence unit. You also work closely with sales and customer success teams to ensure the timely and accurate handling of user requests and queries, and with our product team as part of our testing pool and feedback pool.
Key markers of success in Data Curation include a growing understanding of our taxonomy and its subtleties, and an appetite for continuous improvement of its structure and implementation, and a capacity to disseminate this knowledge by handling user requests in a timely and professional manner.
There is room for personal and professional growth in this position, given the amount and nature of interactions with technical and sales teams, and with our users.
You will receive training in, and gradually become an expert on the Dealroom taxonomy, startup industries and emerging technologies, and how to handle interactions with users in relation to these issues.
If you are curious, approachable, and you enjoy helping others whilst moving or closing issues quickly and efficiently, then this position is for you!
On a daily basis, you can expect close interactions with our Customer Success and Data Curation teams. You will also work on specific projects with our Intelligence Unit, Product and Data engineering teams. In doing so, you will:
On a daily basis
Investigate products and services developed by startups globally, and enhance their Dealroom profiles accordingly. For instance, you will review summaries and edit taglines on company profiles;
Improve data classification, implement Dealroomʼs proprietary taxonomy and contribute to its continuous development;
Share your knowledge of the Dealroom app and taxonomy with users.
Fool-proof our app and its content, by participating in product testing sessions, escalating inconsistencies, and reporting bugs spotted by users.
Periodically
Support automation projects by auditing and processing large sets of incomplete data;
Contribute to customer satisfaction by processing ad-hoc requests such as creating lists and landscapes against set parameters.
What we can offer you
A learning opportunity: joining our team means diving straight into the world of Startups and Venture Capital.
As a SaaS startup ourselves, you will also have the opportunity to develop yourself, our team, and our product as we continue to grow.
Freedom and responsibility to present your own ideas, to turn them into projects and take ownership of their development.
Positive, empathic and outward-focused colleagues, and customers working at the forefront of innovation and technology.
- Perks designed to set you up for success in a new reality:
Apple or Windows laptop
Hybrid work setup with full support: you'll be given access to our office space in Lisbon, and home office setup.
