As part of the Data Team, the Data Scientist's main objective is to contribute to executing upon this data-strategy. On a daily basis you’ll act to maintain our current data and sources on par our quality standards, and monitor this through utilizing our data-warehouse and business-intelligence tooling (Tableau). You’ll actively search for new data sources, operate our scraping & crawling processes, and seek to improve these; including updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures. Along the daily tasks you'll be motivated to seek automation improvements and ways to make our processes more sustainable. Excel and data programming/querying languages are required for this. This is achieved by actively working together with the Research and Product/Development teams.

You have a passion for anything related to tech startups, big-data and numbers. This not only includes knowing the Dealroom database inside-out, but also staying up-to-date on industry news to truly understand how we can best uses internal and external data-sources. Job Description

The Data Scientist will: 

  • Develop, improve and describe various ETL processes within our daily data operations
  • Define and execute upon a plan to utilize Advanced Analytics algorithms for quality control and data management processes
  • Proactively share statistics best practices with the team, through utilizing and further extending our based BI-platform
  • Working with large data sets, analysing them and relating the metrics and their relationships to improve our validation processes, detect whitespots, and to deliver customer-attaining insights
  • Using machine learning algorithms in a practical manner, allowing us to speed up the roadmap delivery
  • Operate and automate the continuous scraping and crawling process, and seek ways to optimize these utilizing Natural Language Processes (NLP) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) principle
  • Monitor, detect and report upon data quality improvement areas, and execute improvement efforts
  • Ensure scalability and flexibility of algorithms to be able to scale-up fast to pan-European level
  • Work closely with our product and development teams to improve platform from data, framework and process perspective

Who you are / Background

    • You have an academic degree in Econometrics, Mathematics, or another relevant quantitative field with a strong Statistical curriculum
    • 3+ years of working experience as a Data Scientist
    • Proven and applied knowledge of advanced statistical techniques
    • Extensive SQL skills, with experience querying large datasets from multiple sources and developing automated reporting
    • Python coding skills for scripting, data manipulation and modelling (PHP also appreciated); also acquainted with code repositories
    • Experience in data analysis and data visualisation using BI software programs such as Tableau, PowerBI or Looker
    • Relevant experience in a modern Cloud stack, preferably AWS Redshift, S3
    • Proven track record of changing business processes with analytics (i.e., not only dash-boarding)
    • Is a pre to have experience with Git, scraping, NLP or text analysis
    • Fluent in English, additional European or Asian language is a bonus
    • Ability to communicate with ease, good interpersonal skills and flourishes in a dynamic scale-up environment
    • EU citizenship or already in the possession of a Dutch working permit
